Cherry Raspberry Milkshake

Paleo Creamy Cashew Dessert Drink

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup frozen organic cherries
  • 1/2 cup frozen organic raspberries
  • 1 teaspoon organic raw coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup homemade cashew milk (see recipe in Beverages on this blog)
  • 1/4 cup raw unpasteurized coconut water from young coconut
  • 2 fresh dates, pitted

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a strong blender and blend until smooth. When the dates are fully blended, it is complete.

 

Notes:

Although this is a Paleo recipe, consuming a large amount of nuts on a consistent basis tends to raise the Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio in our bodies which causes inflammation (it should be close to 1:1 but with processed and factory farmed foods, it is much higher in most of us – nuts have high levels of Omega 6 fatty acids, although cashews are one of the few that have lower levels than other nuts, the reason behind why I use them most often). I also treat this type of recipe more as a dessert drink than a typical morning smoothie because it is high in fruit sugars (which raises insulin levels, which triggers weight gain). I love having this as a milkshake treat with my daughter from time to time, or I will add kale, avocado, and drop dates to make it a more nutrient dense choice).
